Sex workers protest against Israeli offensive in Kolkata

Sex workers, accompanied by their children, here took to streets to protest the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and demanded an immediate truce.

"We want the war to be stopped. Israel should stop its offensive on Lebanon. USA should also stop backing the offensive," Swapna Gayen, a sex worker said on Wednesday. he sex workers, wearing war-victim make-up and mock bandages, condemned the violence in the Middle East and demanded an immediate end to Israeli attacks. They also condemned the US stand.

At least 1,005 people in Lebanon and 101 Israelis have been killed in four weeks of bloodshed sparked after Hizbollah seized two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid on July 12.

Israeli troops thrust deeper into Lebanon on Wednesday and four soldiers were reported killed by Hizbollah rockets as Israel's inner cabinet debated whether to order a bigger advance before any U.N. move to end the war.

Meanwhile, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State David Welch held talks with Lebanese leaders in Beirut as part of efforts to persuade Lebanon and Israel to agree on the terms of a resolution. (ANI)
